Rupee strengthens against US dollar in early trade on Friday
Jul-31-2026
The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, tracking foreign capital inflows and a decline in global crude oil prices, while expectations of continued intervention from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also supported rupee sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors bought equities worth Rs 3,623.51 crore on a net basis on Thursday, exchange data showed. The rupee improved further as the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged this week despite mounting inflationary risks. However, three FOMC members voted in favour of a rate hike, and markets are still pricing in about a 63% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike in September. An uptick in the American currency and escalating US-Iran tensions capped sharper gains in the domestic unit.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 95.40, stronger by 10 paise from its previous close of 95.50 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.4150 and 95.25 respectively.
