Key gauges trade marginally in green in late morning deals
Nov-04-2026

Indian equity benchmarks erased some of their initial gains and were trading marginally in green in late morning deals supported by foreign fund inflows and easing crude oil prices. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 6,836.81 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Traders took some support with Crisil Ratings’ report stating that the Indian data centre industry is expected to witness a significant investment push, with installed capacity likely to expand five-fold to approximately 7.5 gigawatts (GW) by March 2030. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has eased reporting requirements for small service exporters and importers, including relaxing rules for filing export declarations. It has made amendments to the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red as traders remained cautious ahead to the U.S. midterm election results.

Meanwhile, Crisil Ratings in its latest report has said that the Indian data centre industry is expected to witness a significant investment push, with installed capacity likely to expand five-fold to approximately 7.5 gigawatts (GW) by March 2030. The sector could see investments of over Rs 3 lakh crore flowing in over the next four financial years. The expansion, fuelled by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), enterprise digitalisation and rising data consumption, is set to transform the country's digital infrastructure landscape.

However, the report noted that the industry's ability to convert demand into sustainable returns would depend on timely power connectivity, regulatory approvals and disciplined project execution. It stated ‘Nearly half of the upcoming capacity is already committed under long-term contracts, limiting speculative development and reducing offtake risk.’ It noted ‘Upfront tie-ups with hyperscalers, driven by cloud adoption and compute-intensive GenAI workloads, provide revenue certainty from the outset. This helps de-risk projects, even as the scale and speed of the planned build-out intensify execution requirements.’

Besides, Anand Kulkarni, Director, Crisil Ratings, said ‘India's structural cost advantages further strengthen its attractiveness as a data centre destination. Development costs are around one-fifth lower than in several competing Asia-Pacific markets owing to more competitive land, construction and labour costs. Combined with lower power tariffs, this translates into rentals that are 30-35 per cent lower than in peer markets. The ability to develop large, renewable-powered campuses also aligns well with the sustainability goals of hyperscalers, reinforcing India's competitive positioning.’

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23841.95, up by 31.10 points or 0.13% after trading in a range of 23696.15 and 23946.35. There were 27 stocks advancing against 23 stocks declining on the index.
