Key indices extend gains for 5th consecutive session on strong FII Inflows
Nov-04-2026

Indian equity benchmarks ended higher for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, on buying in Capital Goods, Realty and Power shares amid easing crude oil prices. Continued foreign investor buying and encouraging domestic earnings also lent support to market sentiment. On Tuesday, foreign investors recorded net purchases of Rs 6,836 crore, their third consecutive session of buying.

Some of the important factors in trade:

India’s services PMI rises to 4-month high of 55.8 in October: India’s services sector activity recorded the strongest pace of expansion in four months in October 2026 as demand buoyancy fuelled growth in business activity and new orders amid easing cost pressures. According to the survey report, the seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index rose to 55.8 in October from 55.2 in September.

India's data centre capacity to surge five-fold to 7.5 gigawatts by 2030: Crisil Ratings in its latest report has said that the Indian data centre industry is expected to witness a significant investment push, with installed capacity likely to expand five-fold to approximately 7.5 gigawatts (GW) by March 2030.

India emerges as trusted global partner: Highlighting India's growing global appeal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has said that India has earned the trust of the world, with countries across almost every region keen to enter into preferential trade agreements and free trade agreements with it.

India's renewable power capacity quadrupled over past decade to over 300 GW in 2026: International Energy Agency (IEA), in its report has said that India's renewable power capacity has almost quadrupled over the past decade, crossing 300 gigawatts (GW) in 2026, making it the world's second-fastest-growing renewables market and the second-largest manufacturer of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.

Global front: European markets were trading higher, as a slew of strong corporate earnings, steadier oil prices and lower bond yields helped underpin investor sentiment. Asian markets ended mixed after Democrats took control of both houses of Congress in a dramatic win in the U.S. midterm elections, raising uncertainty over tech regulation, trade policy and the U.S. budget deficit.

Finally, the BSE Sensex rose 383.55 points or 0.50% to 77,301.40 and the CNX Nifty was up by 149.75 points or 0.63% to 23,960.60.

The BSE Sensex touched high and low of 77,396.04 and 76,604.85, respectively. There were 21 stocks advancing against 9 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Capital Goods up by 3.60%, Realty up by 2.83%, Power up by 2.64%, Metal up by 2.48% and Industrials up by 2.34%, while IT down by 1.21% and TECK down by 0.84% were the few losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Bharat Electronics up by 4.48%, Titan Company up by 3.82%, ITC up by 2.58%, Interglobe Aviation up by 2.39% and Bajaj Finance up by 2.16%. On the flip side, TCS down by 2.63%, HCL Technologies down by 2.40%, Infosys down by 1.88%, Eternal down by 1.64% and Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 1.20% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, India’s services sector activity recorded the strongest pace of expansion in four months in October 2026 as demand buoyancy fuelled growth in business activity and new orders amid easing cost pressures. Companies were cautiously optimistic about the outlook, and they lifted jobs to the least extent in four months. Moreover, the latest expansion in international sales was the weakest in almost four years.

According to the survey report, the seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index rose to 55.8 in October from 55.2 in September. New business growth was identified by survey participants as the main driver behind the rise in output. Favourable demand conditions, new client wins and successful advertising boosted new order intakes.

Encouragingly, input cost inflation retreated to its lowest mark since August 2020. Concurrently, prices charged for the provision of Indian services rose at the weakest rate since June. Cost pressures were most intense in the Consumer Services segment, which was the only category to see a stronger upturn in input prices than in September. The softest rate of inflation was in Finance & Insurance.

Meanwhile, the HSBC India Composite PMI Output Index -- which measures both manufacturing and services -- also increased from 55.9 in September to 56.2 in October, marking the fastest rise in aggregate output in four months and reflecting healthy business activity.

CNX Nifty touched high and low of 23,960.60 and 23,696.15, respectively. There were 36 stocks advancing against 14 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Bharat Electronics up by 4.71%, Adani Enterprises up by 4.47%, Titan Company up by 4.22%, JIO Financial Services up by 3.73% and Max Healthcare up by 3.53%. On the flip side, TCS down by 2.52%, HCL Technologies down by 2.37%, BSE down by 1.75%, Infosys down by 1.73% and Eternal down by 1.42% were the top losers.

European markets were trading higher; UK’s FTSE 100 increased 113.5 points or 1.07% to 10,751.93, France’s CAC rose 122.49 points or 1.53% to 8,142.80 and Germany’s DAX gained 384.08 points or 1.48% to 26,248.70.

Asian markets ended mixed on Wednesday as investors reacted to a dramatic ‘blue wave’ in the US midterm elections that saw the Democratic Party take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Ongoing pressure on technology and AI-related shares, alongside uncertainty over US-Iran peace talks have kept markets on edge. Further, market participants remained cautious amid rising expectations of interest rate hike by US Federal Reserve at its upcoming meeting on December 8-9, 2026. Meanwhile, Chinese market gained after China's central bank PBoC said that banks had applied to borrow more than 200 billion yuan to finance listed companies' share purchases under an upgraded re-lending scheme.
